SAMPLE COLLECTION INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1
Write the details of the first person whose sample is being collected on the sample tube.
STEP 2
Before you start the collection procedure, wash your hands properly and dry with a clean towel.
STEP 3
Only remove the swab from the packaging once you are ready to collect the sample and ensure it does not touch any other object or surface.
STEP 4
Be careful not to saturate the brush tips with excess saliva.
STEP 5
While pressing firmly, twirl the brush on the inner cheek while moving up and down, from front to back and back to front – avoiding the teeth, gums and tongue.
STEP 6
Time every collection with a stopwatch to ensure you spend at least 30 seconds collecting cells on each swab. For support, you can place your hand on the outside of the cheek being sampled.
STEP 7
The swab can now be removed from the mouth and placed on a sterile surface for air drying – minimum 5 minutes.
STEP 8
Now place the swab back into its labelled tube and ensure it is closed properly.
STEP 9
Repeat the same collection process with the second swab using the unswabbed cheek.
STEP 10
Straight after sampling the first person, attach the corresponding sticker with barcode (e.g. Alleged Father) to both the tube as well as the assigned block on the consent form.
STEP 11
Repeat the entire process (Steps 1 to 10) for the second person being sampled, one swab at a time.
STEP 12
Place all four swabs in the biohazard bag provided. Place the biohazard bag in the box. Place the box in the courier bag.
